Planning Week #1: Drawing Units
Today Anna and I got together work on planning for the Drawing and Painting Units of the Program. After our initial meetings we decided that the best way to start the Drawing Unit was to begin with a project teaching line weight on butcher paper. So we gathered at my apartment, cleared the furniture out of the way and got started on creating our teacher examples for class. Since Anna is the Lead Teacher for the unit, she lead us in a sort of mock class. Now while this might seem like a silly exercise the intent of this was not only to produce teaching example, but to get the teaching artists all on the same page as well as allow the teachers to also be placed in the students shoes.
While is event will occur for every teaching unit, this particular exercise was a bit of a flash back for all of us. Since I am a photographer, I really felt like a silly 18 year old again in Drawing 1 class. I think my Drawing 1 teacher would be horrified to learn that I of all people was teaching children to draw (considering I along with a few other students may have been the cause pre-mature balding).
That being said we were all happy to see how easily, long neglected skills came back to us.
